The Culture Draft.

Spin, keep, repeat. Each spin lands on a role (say, Film · Director) and an era (say, 1960 to 1979). Five real cards from that role come up. Keep one. After five spins (ten in The Production) you have a crate.

A perfect crate is always there. Before the first spin, every draft builds one hidden crate where every pick has chemistry with the others, and it hides among the cards you are offered. At the end you see it, and the best score the draft allowed, so you know how close you came.

No silly crates. The Full Crate covers at least three of music, film, TV and art, never more than two from one, and never two of the same role, so nobody ends up with five directors. The Frequency, The Reel, The Vault and The Signal keep their own balance. The Wrack has none, on purpose (but it still always hides a perfect crate). Nobody can be drafted twice.

What the numbers mean. Every card carries one fact from the public record, the same kind of fact for every card in its role:

• Music artists: claimed record sales. Producers: Grammy nominations for Producer of the Year. Songwriters: Grammy nominations for Song of the Year.
• Actors: Academy Award acting nominations. Directors: Best Director nominations. Films: Academy Awards won.
• TV series: Emmy nominations for Outstanding Drama or Comedy Series. Networks: Outstanding Series wins by shows they aired.
• Artists: the most ever paid for one of their paintings or sculptures.
• The film crew (The Production only): Academy Award nominations in their own craft, from screenplay to makeup.

The Production: the whole crew. Ten spins fill a film's credits: a director, a screenwriter, two leads, a cinematographer, an editor, a composer, a production designer, a costume designer and one of sound, visual effects or makeup and hair. Every crew card is a real Academy Award nominee in that craft, counted from the Academy's lists on Wikipedia (Best Screenplay, Cinematography, Film Editing, Original Score, Production Design, Costume Design, Sound, Visual Effects, Makeup and Hairstyling). Two people nominated for the same film have chemistry on the record, so the editor who cut a director's picture finds that director. When the season is done, the credits roll: save them as an image or share the link, which opens the same credits on any phone. The names are real; the picture was never made, and the credits say so. The Production is a free draft for now; the daily crate and the leaderboard stay five spins.

The big number on a card is its rank within its own role, from 60 to 99. It is not a verdict on anyone's art; it is the record, sorted.

Chemistry. Any two picks can have chemistry, and every reason shows on the card before you keep it:

• On the record, +10: a director and an actor, or two actors, nominated for the same film; a film and someone nominated for it; in The Production, any crew member and anyone else nominated for the same film; a series and the network that aired it; a songwriter and the artist who sang their song.
• Same sound: two music cards that share a genre, +6. Pop and rock are everywhere, so sharing only those is +3. A songwriter's sound is the sound of the artists they wrote for.
• Two series on the same network, +5. Two comedies or two dramas, +4.
• Both from the same era, +3.

The season. Your crate plays 52 weeks against rival crates drawn from the same pool. A great crate wins most weeks; a perfect 52 and 0 almost never happens. The season is a game, not a prediction. The link under every result replays the same draft and season on any phone; a replay earns nothing.

Why no photos. Photographs of people belong to the photographers and agencies who took them, and a face on a game card can look like an endorsement nobody gave. So every card is drawn: a mark for its role, its initials and its number. The receipts are the pictures that matter here.

The daily crate. A new crate opens at midnight in Miami, the same one for everyone in the world, and the mode changes with the day: The Wrack (anything goes) on Sunday, The Full Crate on Monday and Friday, The Frequency (music) on Tuesday, The Reel (film and TV) on Wednesday, The Signal (TV) on Thursday, The Vault (art) on Saturday. Free drafts in any mode are always open; only the daily crate goes on the board.

One go, on the clock. Each browser gets one go at the day's crate. With the shot clock on, every spin gives you 20 seconds; run out and the Loadmaster grabs a card for you at random. Only timed crates go on the board. Turn the clock off and you can read every card for as long as you like, in free drafts or as a practice run of the day's crate, but a practice run uses up the day and never goes on the board. Close the tab halfway and the crate waits where you left it, with the same cards. The server notes when your browser first opened the day's crate and whether the clock was on; a score counts only if it is posted between 20 seconds and 15 minutes after that, and only your first result of the day counts. So nobody can study the crate for an hour, replay it until they find the perfect one, and post that.

Your name and log. The name you post under, a random code this browser makes for itself and your log of every crate are saved on this device, so you never type your name twice and your bests are always here. The board stores your name, the social handle you chose to show (if any), your crate and its record, when you first opened the day's crate and whether the clock was on, and a scrambled copy of that random code so one browser keeps one entry a day and one name and one handle; no email, account or location. A name (matched ignoring case, spaces and punctuation) or a handle belongs to the first browser that posts it; choose a new one and the old one is free again. Handles show as plain text, never as links, and nothing checks that a handle is really yours; one posted by someone else comes down when it is reported. Names are checked for links, phone numbers and official-sounding names, not screened for every offensive word; a name that should not be there comes down when it is reported.

The Loadmaster. The booth announcer calls every pick and the season's big weeks. Its lines are written by us and picked by rule, never by an AI, and the jokes are about your draft, never about the people on the cards.

Free, and nothing to bet. A finished draft earns coins and XP in Play, kept on this phone; they cannot be bought, sold or cashed out.
